Morning thoughts on change and AI

12:31

Good morning, good morning, good morning. I apologize if it's windy, noisy. It's very bright and sunny this morning. It's about 58, 59 degrees. That's American. Is that, what is that? Celsius and Fahrenheit. It's Fahrenheit.

But I have to start thinking in different ways over here. Like, instead of meters, it's feet. Did you know, like, if I have to, which I'm going to have to, relearn the driving and the driving test, then I've got to, like, be able to do the maths or do the conversions between meters and feet.

And I've never done that. I grew up, like, on meters. So that's kind of like something I've got to, like, lock down before I go into these, not exams, but, like, learning the driving code over here. Because the difference is, is all the signs and all the, like, directions and the five lanes of doom.

Well, actually, we went on a bridge the other day. I think it was the Rariton Bridge. I think that was Rariton River. It was over the, yeah, it was over the Rariton River. And it was, like, five lanes each side. It was crazy. And it goes up into the sky. It's like a sky bridge to nowhere.

It's incredible, you know, the stuff that other human beings have managed to engineer on this planet. It's a beautiful, bright day today. A little bit windy, but it's bright, sunny, blue skies. It's about 58 degrees. It's going to be about 60, 70, hopefully, today.

And it has been on and off cold and kind of damp and, yeah, just not nice. And so it's not really been conducive to me wanting to get out and walk and do little voice notes. And it's a shame because I love this app and I love putting little voice notes out, getting all those things out of my brain.

I just did a little video blog for my daughter, just to send across to her, let her know that she's loved and I miss her. And, you know, it's good to, like, I think this is my best way of, like, communicating.

Most blokes are not very good at communicating where they're at, their feelings and everything. I always feel like audio is a good way for me to do that. It's like an augmentation between, like, it's like the middle man, if you like, or woman, person, middle person, between me and the world outside.

And it has been a rough couple of years for many different reasons. Career, mental health, you only have to look around the world around you, where you are now, and there's some kind of urgency. You know, there's always been urgency, but the planet, climate change, financials, career, AI, like, it's all just, like, coming to this big point, this pinnacle, right?

And the need or the feeling to adapt, to need to adapt to it every day is kind of staggering, you know? It feels a lot. I've always been pretty good at adaptation, but at the minute, I'm struggling with the idea of what to do next.

I'm at this really interesting junction point in my life where I have this opportunity to re-roll or press the remix button on my life up to today. And I look at the potential careers or potential jobs out there in the world, you know, what makes money, income, and it feels like an ever-changing thing.

If you're interested in technology at all, every day when I look online, there's some new advancement in AI or some new tool or something that can, you know, it seems to eliminate a lot of the process. The more we train these things, the more it can understand a variety of different jobs. What's this? Pesticide-treated water.

Okay, that's probably not something I should be walking next to then. Yeah, so, like, there's just a lot of change, right? I mean, there's always been change, but maybe it's just more visible to us and we have more access to it than we've ever had in our lives.

But I certainly feel like Ineed to jump back into everything again and I truly believe that statement of like the people who are using AI versus the people who are not using AI alongside their day-to-day life. I have this vision of you know this 24-7 almost double of me doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the stuff that I don't enjoy to do that I'm not very good at or not versed at or not educated enough in to be able to provide for the walking talking meat sack version of me that wakes up in the morning.

You know like I feel like as much as there's so many ramifications about why AI is evil and could kill us all and taking away jobs and all of that it's also incredibly useful for somebody who has ADHD like I'm pretty sure I have to be able to not just turn up a blank page syndrome in the morning

you know to be able to like deploy something take an idea a kernel a shell of an idea and turn it into something and expand upon it either generatively or you know informed from a bunch of stuff that I've already worked on to ideate to create something different or to take it into a different direction

and I remember maybe it was about a year ago probably more than that there was this need for me to stick payment buttons on the web I think it was some book I read it was either Gary Vaynerchuk or somebody like that he said you know you need you need more you need more pay buttons pay me buttons across the web

and I started doing a bunch of that with like Gumroad and things like that and actually it's actually true you know there's things that I've got like little tips and tricks to one of them was to how to download all your TikTok videos and I didn't put a price on that and that's ended up making I think over the last couple of years just in residual just sitting there doing nothing

I don't do anything to it just makes a little bit of money like trickles in so the more payment buttons you can put past the web of things that you've made and if you are smart using the SEO and looking at what the relevant topics of the day are or the week or the month or even the seasonal things that are happening year on year every year in every country you know you can have this trickle that comes in and that trickle can quite easily turn into a flood at various points in your life

you know I've had some great opportunities in life but I've got to this point now where I'm like I could do anything with my life like what do I want to do where do I want to position myself what's going to be the most value

you know what is the most value that I can give with the skills that I have or the skills that I'm willing to learn or build upon for the rest of my days and that's such a big broad wide thing to think about and it's been doing my head in for about two weeks now two or three weeks so I thought I'd come out for a walk this morning

and just get off my chest have my coffee enjoy the sunshine I've got about six or seven audio posts I want to talk about but I'm going to probably just record this one for today and then I'll try and find a way to spend some time to take time out somewhere and sit down and set all my stuff up and record the other ones I'd love it as well if I could upload stuff upload stuff to voice notes and it's just kind of sitting there

and then there was like a release cycle in the settings where it's just like if there's any voice notes here publish it you know like if I if I can set up a schedule so that because I don't like the idea of just sending out like six or seven audio voice notes one after each other

all hitting twitter I'm looking for a way to automate that by the way I'm probably going to scrape the voicenotes.com pages with the with the names looking for a new one and then turn that into a tweet and then auto send it unless they end up putting RSS feeds in and some kind of schedule and stuff it does make the tweet

but you have to copy and paste it in because the twitter API is so expensive to to work with for everybody which is just so dumb

maybe we should just put in blue sky support and just be like really team blue sky from voice notes I don't know

anyway I'm rambling now like a million topics an hour I just get really excited when the weather is like this and I've got a coffee in my hand and I can walk I'm healthy you know it's a lot to celebrate on the daily

you know all right I'm going to close it out there uh would love scheduling so that if I make loads of voice notes it automatically like posts one from the pool to a certain thing that I designate like I'll go in there afterwards and say I want it to post to this

and then every 24 hours or whatever setting I put 12 hours sixI don't know, maybe not. You let me know. I know some people listen to this. If you listen to this all the way to the end, wow, what are you doing with your time? Maybe you're standing in a field somewhere in England, I don't know.

Or you're on a bus. Or you're on a plane. That's my favourite thing, you know, is making content. I call it content because I've just been a media person for a long time in terms of taking those slices of time and utilising them in the best way I can. I call this the dead time.

Like capturing your thoughts in the dead time, the down time between either working or sleeping or eating or whatever your life requires of you. And they're hugely valuable.

We spend so much dead time in the car or on a train, on a plane, on a boat, doing nothing, just eating, staring out of windows, when we could really be just capturing those moments and just distilling where we're at in our brains and getting it out of our system and into a voice note and feeding it to the AI so the AI can slowly start to learn us better.

That's what ends up with that, that's what I'm on about with that like virtual double. You know, all of this stuff transcribed and fed into a personal AI is almost like a version of you, a mirror image of you.

The more you feed it, the more it learns, the more it understands the sentiment around who you are, what you stand for, you know, time of day, like weather, topics you're interested in, thoughts you were going through, like it's all valuable stuff.

I would love to have a virtualised version of me be able to handle stuff 24-7 around the clock, doesn't need any sleep, just need to fill up those tokens and pay for the electricity.

And probably people are like, yeah, but AI is using far too much electricity. And trust me, I understand that. And I agree that we've got a climate catastrophe because of it.

But we need to have that bigger conversation. And hopefully the AI can be part of that, in terms of like, okay, we need to have solar panels, we need to have solar efficiency, we need better battery technology, help us build better battery technology that doesn't have such a damaging impact on the human environment.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I just once I get on a on a voice note, I just want it just split everything comes out. Alright, I'll catch you later. Take care. Have a fantastic day wherever you are on planet Earth.
